Mccarthy greets new Roy

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE ONE -

IPSWICH boss Mick McCarthy was in mischievous mood when he heard that his new signing, Ryan Tunnicliffe, wanted to emulate Roy Keane.

McCarthy and Keane infamously clashed before the 2002 World Cup when Keane walked out on Ireland.

Upon hearing that on-loan Manchester United midfielder Tunnicliffe hopes to emulate Keane, McCarthy said: “What, on the pitch or off it!”

Keane played in the No 16 shirt for United and Tunnicliffe has taken that squad number at Ipswich.

He said: “Roy Keane was my idol. He was a hard-tackling midfielder which is what I like to be.”
