MARCUS GOES ON THE ATTACK WITH BLADES
MARCUS Williams is glad to be in the reckoning under new Sheffield United boss David Weir and admits the manager’s attacking outlook suits him down to the ground.
The left-back has started the season in great form and is encouraged by the way Weir wants his side to go about their business.
And the 27-year-old believes his side will become a stronger unit defensively thanks to the experience on hand from the Blades boss.
“The gaffer wants the full-backs to play high up the field and that suits my style of play,” said the former Reading and Scunthorpe defender.
“I have played as an attacking full-back throughout my career really; it has only been the last couple of years that I have played in a more defensive role.
“I am delighted to be back in the team having worked hard to impress in pre-season.”
Williams, who was on loan at Sheffield United for much of last season, is revelling in his time with former Everton and Scotland man Weir.
“The gaffer is great to work with as a defender because of what he achieved in his career,” added Williams.
“He knows everything there is to know about defending and now we must learn off him and steadily we will become stronger as a unit.”
