The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP -

WHEN Billy Davies looks at the signings he’s made for Forest, I’m sure he’ll admit that my old player Jamie Mackie is the pick of the bunch.

I had Jamie at QPR and his enthusiasm alone make him worth a place in any side. Fans love him, team-mates love him – the way he plays just lifts the atmosphere of the entire club and that’s priceless.

I think it was very appropriate then when he scored his first goal last week, it was the platform for Forest to go on and beat a poor Bolton side 3-0.

I see a lot of my old QPR side in Forest. We didn’t spend quite as much money but we could still get the players we wanted.

And like them, we started the season at about 12-1 or 14-1.We weren’t many people’s favourites.

But the thing is, we started well and got on a run. And when that happens, players just can’t see how they can lose.

They believe in you, they believe in their team mates. They’re full of confidence and it makes everything so much easier. It really can be something as simple as a feel-good factor that wins you the title.
