HARRY SWINGS IT FOR MATT

- By Chris Dunlavy

QPR NEWBOY Matt Phillips says he can’t wait to show off his skills to the Loftus Road faithful.

The 22-year-old winger, who burst onto the scene with a string of scintillating displays for Blackpool in the Premier League, joined the Hoops on Friday for a fee of around £5m.

It ends a three-year stay with the Seasiders, but Phillips – currently out with a broken arm – says the chance to work with Harry Redknapp was irresistible.

“I had a great time up in Blackpool and I’m very thankful to them for giving me the opportunity,” he said. “But I just felt it was time for a change and QPR is a great club.

“And to play under people like Harry and Steve McClaren – everyone knows what they’ve done before so it’s very exciting.

“The only frustration is that I can’t get going straight away. But I’m back running now and I can do everything apart from contact. Hopefully it should only be a couple of weeks now. I can’t wait.

“I’m a quick lad, I like to beat a man. I like to get crosses and shots in. And I’ll work hard. I go out every Tuesday and Saturday to give my all and I’m looking forward to showing the fans at QPR what I’m all about.”
