LAIRD KNEE IS BLOW TO BROWN

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE ONE -

PHIL BROWN has called on his young Southend United troops to take advantage of Marc Laird’s misfortunate after the midfielder was ruled out for two months with a knee injury.

Laird limped off during last Saturday’s 2-0 win against Northampton Town and a scan revealed medial ligament damage that will keep him sidelined for six to eight weeks.

“It may give some of the younger players the opportunity to impress,” said Shrimpers boss Brown.

“It’s really disappointing because Marc has made an excellent start to the season and done really well.

“It means our squad is going to be tested even further over the next few weeks.”
