O’BRIEN BACKED TO STAR AT GULLS
TORQUAY boss Chris Hargreaves believes Aiden O’Brien can fire his side to safety after signing the striker on a month’s loan from Millwall.
The 20-year-old has impressed for Republic of Ireland Under-21s, scoring five goals in eight appearances.
He was loaned to Crawley last season and scored three goals in five matches while at Aldershot this term.
O’Brien came through the youth system at the Den, with his only senior appearance coming in the League Cup in September 2011, but Hargreaves does not doubt his talent.
“He’s very sharp, a good goal-scorer and he’s up for it, which is something that can’t be under-estimated,” said Hargreaves.
“He’s got some real fire in his belly and wants to do well. We’ve had some really good feedback from the people at Millwall.
“When we trained on Thursday, his first session, he was excellent, so it’s another option for us.
“He’s quick and busy, and a good finisher. You could play him as a target-man or one of three strikers if that was the system used.”
The Gulls have also resigned winger Danny Stevens on a short-term contract to the end of the season after the winger left Plainmoor last summer.
