FREDDY ADU, who was once dubbed the new Pele and linked with Manchester United, is training with Blackpool.

The 24-year-old, right, became the youngest athlete to ever sign a professional contract in the United States when he joined MLS side DC United at the age of 14. In 2006 he spent two weeks training with Manchester United with Sir Alex Ferguson revealing he was a long-term admirer. However, a move didn’t come to fruition and he has since had disappointing spells with Benfica and Monaco.

He returned to the States with Philadelphia Union in 2011 after failing to live up to his lofty billing in Europe before moving to Brazilian outfit Bahia, who released him in November.

The attacking midfielder has 17 caps and two goals for the United States but hasn’t played international football for three years and even if Seasiders boss Barry Ferguson wanted to sign the former prodigy, a work permit could be a sticking point.
