NACHO BOOSTS KAV AT CARLISLE
CARLISLE boss Graham Kavanagh insists ex-Rangers striker Nacho Novo still possesses all of his predatory instincts after snapping up the Spanish veteran on a short-term contract.
Novo totted up 71 strikes in a six-year stay at Ibrox but, since departing in 2010, has failed to find another place to call home.
The 34-year-old has tried his luck at Spanish clubs Sporting Gijon and Huesca as well as Poland’s Legia Warsaw over the last four years.
And his latest venture came in October for Scottish Championship side Greenock Morton but he was released from his contract on Christmas Eve after netting just one goal.
Kavanagh said “He’s scored goals wherever he's played and brings intelligence and cleverness to the team. He’s a new option for us.
“It’s pleasing, all the players we’ve signed up to now have been generally young and inexperienced, and he gives us a know-how and knowledge and composure that I hope will rub off on the other players and excite the fans.”
