VARNEY’S SO GLAD TO ESCAPE
BLACKBURN’S new signing Luke Varney says he is glad to have escaped from the turmoil surrounding his former club Leeds.
The ex-Charlton, Sheffield Wednesday, Blackpool and Potsmouth striker has signed for Gary Bowyer’s side on loan and confirmed a lack of game time at Elland Road made him determined to move on.
“Once it was clear that I might not get a contract next year at Leeds, they stopped playing me,” said Varney, who has made more than 300 league appearances since starting at Crewe in 2003.
“It’s not anger but there’s a lot inside that I need to get out and I’m hoping to do that on the pitch for Blackburn.”
