The Football League Paper - - CHRIS DUNLAVY -

LEE Tomlin could be just what Middlesbrough need. Yes, he’s a combustible nutter who gets sent off every other game.

He’s already had three red cards for Peterborough this season and collected enough yellows to make a life-size collage of the sun.

But Tomlin is someone who sails on the ragged edge between brilliance and madness, forever steaming into tackles, niggling opponents and always hovering just moments from a mental meltdown.

He’s a manager’s nightmare but the kind of unpredictable player Boro are desperately lacking, someone to inspire the punters with a bit of passion and fire.

He may miss as many games as he plays, but it’ll be fun to watch. And isn’t that what football is about?
