WILDER: DIAMOND CAN BE THE SOUL OF THE COBBLERS
CHRIS Wilder knows a player when he sees one and the Northampton boss reckons Zander Diamond can shine for the Cobblers in the League Two relegation battle.
Northampton have recruited heavily since Wilder was appointed as manager last month, but the loss of Lee Collins to injury has left them short at the back.
Wilder believes Burton defender Diamond, who has joined on loan for the rest of the season, has what it takes to make an immediate impact on the team.
“He wants to come here and I’m sure he’ll be a really good player for this situation,” said Wilder.
“By all reports he was superb last year. Sometimes you get out of the side, the team does well and you can’t get yourself back in.
“Zander is an experienced defender who played a lot of games in Scotland. He wants to play football.
“It’s important to stress he hasn’t done anything wrong, he’s been a brilliant pro and has never complained once about not playing.
“He also never tried to instigate a move away. We want to keep them all here, but every now and then you’ve got to let people go out and do what they want to do.”
