CH­ESTER­FIELD boss Paul Cook ad­mit­ted it was a case of two points dropped for his pro­mo­tion-chas­ing side as New­port eased their rel­e­ga­tion wor­ries with a cru­cial late lev­eller.

Jimmy Ryan’s strike early in the sec­ond half ap­peared to set up a Spire­ites tri­umph, but Max Porter’s su­perb late ef­fort earned par­ity for the strug­glers from South Wales.

“New­port were only one down and never laid down even though they didn’t cre­ate much,” said Cook.

“But we missed some chances to get us over the fin­ish line and that gave New­port a chance.

“It is two points dropped at home and that’s dis­ap­point­ing, but we can’t take our mind off the job in hand, fight­ing for pro­mo­tion with five league games left.
