CLARK’S CALL FOR GOALS AT BLUES

The Football League Paper - - NEWS -

BIRMINGHAM’S manager Lee Clark has told his relegation threatened players to cut out ‘the tricks and flicks’ – and just put the ball in the net!

Clark has made it clear his young players need to grow up – and fast.

Clark said: “These young players I’m bringing in have got to start to learn that it’s alright doing the tricks and flicks to try and get yourself on Soccer AM with a little bit of skill here and there.

“But the name of the game is putting the ball in the net and that is what we have got to start teaching them to do.We have to win games. It will be a nail-biting finish to the season.

“It isn’t what it looks like on the eye, it’s the end product that matters. Come the end of season no-one is talking about your trick player, your flick player, your little dummy there, the little give-and-go, play 300 passes and not get very far.

“What they’re looking at is ‘what’s the score?’. Winning the game, that’s what it’s about.

“As I’ve said many times, they’ve got to be able to do the ugly side of the game.”
