OXFORD boss Gary Waddock says he will continue to give homegrown talent a chance to shine after signing Josh Ruffels to a new contract.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who has made more than 30 appearances this season, signed a long-term deal this week and Waddock thinks U’s fans will appreciate his policy of blooding youngsters.

“He works hard at his game and has a very bright future ahead – I’m delighted that his future will be at Oxford United,” Waddock said.

“I’m a firm believer in giving good young players a chance and I think the fans really get behind them, particularly if they are local lads.”

Ruffels’ contract could see him remain at the Kassam Stadium until 2018 after he rejoined his hometown club from Coventry last summer.
