DONCASTER’S DOWNFALL WILL BE A SHAME

The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP -

NOBODY does last-day drama like Donny. Last season, it was a late smash and grab at Brentford that sealed the League One title and promotion to the Championship.

Now they must go to Leicester and perform more heroics to pre- serve their place in the second tier. If Birmingham win their game in hand, even that may not be enough.

That would be a shame, because Donny do play some lovely stuff. For 45 minutes they were immaculate and a genuine joy to watch.

But what Reading have is Premier League players with Premier League power and that always tends to show in the end, as it did in the ruthless finishing of Pogrebnyak and Le Fondre.

Will it be enough for a place in the play-offs? Probably not if they repeat their insipid first half. If they do make it, it’s hard to see Reading outplaying the likes of Derby, QPR or Wigan.
