CRAIG Cathcart has revealed he’s learnt a thing or two from youngster Harrison McGahey in the Blackpool defence.

The centre-back pairing have gelled for the Seasiders in recent weeks, conceding just two goals in three matches prior to this weekend.

The 18-year-old McGahey has excelled since being thrown into the Seasiders relegation battle and Cathcart believes he has also raised his game as a result.

“I’ve had to take a bit more initiative because he is inexperienced at this level,” said Cathcart.

“You have to talk him through the game a bit, but Harrison has come in and made things a bit easier to be honest.

“He has been a credit to himself. He hasn’t looked out of place at all, he has come in, been comfortable and composed, and he has definitely helped us along the way.

“He is a confident lad, he says the right things when he needs to.

“He has good ability, it was just whether the time was right putting him in, but obviously the coaching staff made the decision to put him in and it has paid off.”

IMPRESSED: Craig Cathcart
