FORMER Bootham Crescent hero Matty Blair silenced the York faithful with a second-half winner as their delayed tie finally took place 48 hours late.

After a deluge caused the postponement on the Saturday, Blair, who moved across the Pennines last summer, scored the only goal five minutes after halftime.

Chances were few and far between in the opening half with Calvin Andrew and Ryan Brobel trying their luck for York and Antoni Sarcevic going close at the other end.

But Blair made the breakthough when he bundled in from close range after Sarcevic’s shot had been blocked on the line by Lanre Oyebanjo

David Ball wasted a glorious chance to double the lead in the closing stages when Nick Pope saved brilliantly.

Substitute Ryan Bowman almost scored a late equaliser but Town held out to end York’s 17-match unbeaten run.
