I WASN’T surprised to see Oscar Garcia resign as Brighton manager. I think he was the wrong appointment from the start.

For a foreign manager, who knows mainly overseas players, it’s hard to get to grips with the Championship.

Oscar did a commendable job but I think Brighton want to blood some of their academy products and foreign managers generally find it very difficult to go down that route. They want to bring in lads from abroad.

That would be wrong at Brighton, who’ve invested in some very talented young kids over the last few years – lads like Rohan Ince and Christian Walton, the young keeper from Plymouth who is a great prospect.

If they put their trust in those players, they’ll be a club to be reckoned with in the next few years.

Which is why I hope now that Tim Sherwood gets it. It would be a great job for Tim.

It’s a club he could really get his teeth into, a well-run operation with a chairman who’d give him plenty of support.

They’re going about it the right way and Tim, who did a great job with the youth team at Spurs, would be a perfect fit. I could see him being there for a number of years.
