Born: Eve­sham, 1967 (Age 47) 1986-90: Started life as a young­ster at Worces­ter City then joined Eve­sham United be­fore sign­ing for Northamp­ton Town in the Foot­ball League – mak­ing one sub ap­pear­ance in the League be­fore re­turn­ing to Worces­ter City.

1990-94: Joined Welsh side Wrex­ham in March 1990 be­fore sign­ing for Danny Bergara’s Stock­port County for £10,000 where he made 97 ap­pear­ances scor­ing 42 goals in the league.

1994-99: Alan Smith signed Preece for £350,000 to part­ner Chris Arm­strong at Crys­tal Palace in June 1994. He made 20 ap­pear­ances and scored four goals in the league be­fore be­ing sold to Black­pool for £200,000 in July 1995, where he made 129 league ap­pear­ances with 35 goals. Preece joined Bury on a free in July 1998. 1999-2005: Preece was ap­pointed joint care­taker player-man­ager of Bury along­side Steve Red­mond. In June 2000, Preece was ap­pointed per­ma­nent player-man­ager with Red­mond player-as­sis­tant. Preece guided Bury to the Divi­son Thr ee play-offs in 2002-03 but left due to cuts in De­cem­ber 2003. He joined Carlisle as a player where they lost and re­gained Foot­ball League sta­tus in con­sec­u­tive sea­sons. 2005-present: Preece joined Worces­ter City as man­ager in Con­fer­ence North from 2005-07. He joined North­wich Vic­to­ria in 2009 in the Norther n Premier League as player-man­ager un­til 2012. Cur­rently at Air­bus UK Broughton as di­rec­tor of foot­ball.
