Born: Evesham, 1967 (Age 47) 1986-90: Started life as a youngster at Worcester City then joined Evesham United before signing for Northampton Town in the Football League – making one sub appearance in the League before returning to Worcester City.
1990-94: Joined Welsh side Wrexham in March 1990 before signing for Danny Bergara’s Stockport County for £10,000 where he made 97 appearances scoring 42 goals in the league.
1994-99: Alan Smith signed Preece for £350,000 to partner Chris Armstrong at Crystal Palace in June 1994. He made 20 appearances and scored four goals in the league before being sold to Blackpool for £200,000 in July 1995, where he made 129 league appearances with 35 goals. Preece joined Bury on a free in July 1998. 1999-2005: Preece was appointed joint caretaker player-manager of Bury alongside Steve Redmond. In June 2000, Preece was appointed permanent player-manager with Redmond player-assistant. Preece guided Bury to the Divison Thr ee play-offs in 2002-03 but left due to cuts in December 2003. He joined Carlisle as a player where they lost and regained Football League status in consecutive seasons. 2005-present: Preece joined Worcester City as manager in Conference North from 2005-07. He joined Northwich Victoria in 2009 in the Norther n Premier League as player-manager until 2012. Currently at Airbus UK Broughton as director of football.
