prospect Christy Pym isn’t the only current League Two goalie who can boast experience of training with the full England squad.
James Shea has impressed at AFC Wimbledon since joining in the summer after spells in Non-League with Ryman clubs Needham Market and Harrow Borough last term.
But the 23-year-old’s career highlight to date is a toss-up between being on the bench for Arsenal in Champions League matches before his release last year, or the 2010 day when he was asked to make up the numbers in an England training session under Fabio Capello.
“England were at the Arsenal training ground and needed a keeper,” Shea said. “They had their England kit on and I’m in my red Arsenal top, so I stuck out like a sore thumb.
“It was Joe Hart and myself and he was brilliant. Whenever they came back to train at our place he’d pop over to say hello, remember my name. The little things count.”
