SHRIMPERS ARE ON A ROLL RIGHT NOW
SOUTHEND UNITED’s impressive start to the season continued with a hard-fought victory at home to 10-man Strewsbury Town.
Shaq Coulthirst’s header was enough to give United their fourth successive League Two victory and propel the Shrimpers to fourth.
Shrewsbury ried to come back through Jean-Louis Akpra Akpro who struck the post, and James Collins who saw his 25-yard shot creep inches wide.
The result leaves Phil Brown’s men just two points off top spot, and having gone unbeaten throughout the whole of September, Southend are the team to beat in League Two.
A mixed August saw them crash out of the Capital One Cup at home to Walsall, but Brown has since turned Roots Hall into a fortress with three wins and a draw from their last five at home.
After crashing out in the play-offs to Burton Albion last season, United fans can expect them to be challenging for automatic promotion this time.
