Septem­ber 28, 1929: Joe Brad­ford hits three hat-tricks in eight days. The first for Birm­ing­ham v New­cas­tle on the Satur­day, then three for the Foot­ball League v Ir­ish League in mid­week and three more for Birm­ing­ham v Brad­ford City the fol­low­ing Satur­day. Septem­ber 29, 1979:Lee Holmes helps Brent­ford beat Southend, throws on a track­suit over his kit and jumps on a friend’s motorcycle at 4.45pm. At 5.30 he is mar­ried in Bark­ing reg­istry of­fice. Septem­ber 30,1946: Two days after play­ing in the North­ern Ire­land side that loses 7-2 to Eng­land John Carey and Bill Gor­man are in the Repub­lic of Ire­land side that loses 1-0… to Eng­land! Septem­ber 30, 1987: Rangers beat Dy­namo Kiev 2-0 after legally nar­row­ing the pitch the evening after the Rus­sian club prac­tised on it. Oc­to­ber 2, 1976: Red and yel­low cards are in­tro­duced to the Foot­ball League. David Wagstaffe of Black­burn is first player to be ‘yel­low carded’ against Ori­ent. Oc­to­ber 4, 1913: Bad day for Stock­port’s Nor­man Wood. In a game against Ful­ham he scores an own goal, then gives away a penalty, when his side were later awarded a penalty he takes it and sends it straight into the keeper’s hands!
