LOUIS IS KEEN TO TIE UP A RETURN

- By Paddy von Behr

NOTTS COUNTY assistant manager Greg Abbott has revealed he is counting down the days until January when the Magpies can bring back defender Louis Laing.

Laing’s emergency loan from cross-town rivals Nottingham Forest expired after yesterday’s Swindon game and Football League procedure means it cannot be extended until 2015.

The 21-year-old has been a key cog in Notts County’s assault on the League One play-off places.

“Louis has been terrific for us,” said Abbott. “If you are looking forward, and are trying to move the club forward, the younger ones are the ones we like to get in.

“He has to go back because his loan is up and he will talk to Stuart Pearce, who will tell him what his plans are for him.”

Laing signed for Forest after being released by Sunderland over the summer but has yet to make an appearance at the City Ground.

The former England Under-19 man is keen to return on loan. “I’m hoping I can come back,” he said.“I’ll speak to Stuart Pearce and the gaffer here. It’s a great club, the fans are great.”
