MATCH OF THE DAY STILL MY HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE TWO -

I LIKE to think of myself as a modern thinker. Somebody who is willing to learn and evolve.

Not a dinosaur who is stuck in the ways of ‘how we used to live’. And yet I felt somewhat comforted to discover this week that the BBC would continue to create Match of the Day for the foreseeable future.

Back in the day, MOTD was the football fix of the week. There were no live games. Sat- urday night was all about a football overdose as the highlights of the country’s best fixtures were transmitted to the nation. Just as buildings are given ‘listed’ status, so should MOTD. It was and is a work of art. And it was and ought to be available to everybody, rich or poor. It is our national game, the greatest sport. And everybody should have free and easy access to it.

Long live MOTD.
