PLAY­ERS of­ten talk about the ef­fect of the 12th man in the stands, so Ply­mouth Ar­gyle play­ers should have had no ex­cuses yes­ter­day af­ter sup­port­ers gave the pre-match team talk!

The Pil­grims em­barked on the 387-mile trip to base­ment side Hartle­pool – the long­est trip in English foot­ball – in the early hours of Satur­day and be­came the first foot­ball team to crowd source their team talk.

In con­junc­tion with mo­bile phone net­work Three, sup­port- ers were asked to send their in­spi­ra­tional words to the club’s twit­ter ac­count, with the best read to the play­ers be­fore kick­off at Vic­to­ria Park.

Part of the prose in­cluded: “Pride, pas­sion and be­lief. Each and ev­ery one of you has the chance to be­come a leg­end in this club’s his­tory, start­ing to­day. The big push for pro­mo­tion be­gins NOW. Get out there, play with some guts and get us the re­sult we all de­serve.”

How­ever, they lost 3-2...
