NEW Read­ing striker Yakubu has promised to live up to his goalscor­ing rep­u­ta­tion fol­low­ing his sur­prise ar­rival at the Made­jski Sta­dium.

‘The Yak’s’ re­turn to th­ese shores af­ter three years was con­firmed when he signed for the Roy­als on trans­fer dead­line day.

And the for­mer Portsmouth and Mid­dles­brough man is con­vinced he can pick up where he left off in front of goal.

“When I get the ball, for sure I am go­ing to score,” said the 32-year-old.“I have con­fi­dence.

“As a striker, if you don’t score goals, it’s like you’re not do­ing your job. So I al­ways be­lieve I can score, what­ever league I play in.

“I hope my team-mates feed me, then I can score. I never set my­self a tar­get. I just want to score goals.This is the place to be.”

The striker’s re­turn to Eng­land fol­lows spells with Chi­nese Su­per League club Guangzhou R&F and Al Rayyan of Qatar.
