BIRMINGHAM are set to reward Demarai Gray for his loyalty in the January transfer window with an improved contract.

The 18-year-old winger has lit up the Championship this season with an array of dazzling displays, including a hat-trick in the 6-1 win over Reading in December.

He was the subject of a £5m deadline day offer from Championship high-flyers Bournemouth, but the Blues turned it down with the England U19 international happy at St Andrew’s.

And Birmingham manager Gary Rowett has revealed discussions will soon take place on an improved deal.

“It’s important to get him somewhere where he deserves to be financially,” said Rowett. “There is going to be a reward for him just to have that sense of security that he can keep developing and not worry at all about that side of the game

“While he is performing really well for us, then obviously we want to get him tied up and secure for as long as we can.”

TALENTED: Demarai Gray
