A STATUE of one-club man Peter Wright was unveiled on Thursday at the site of Colchester United’s former Layer Road home.

Wright, who played more than 400 times for the U’s, died in October 2012, aged 78. But the winger will now be forever remembered with Colchester Borough Council having part-funded the tribute.

Wright’s former teammate Bobby Hunt said: “Peter would have been very proud. He’d have been pleased as punch.

“Peter was a great player, probably the best I ever played with. He had everything: pace, trickery, was good in the air and he could also score goals.”
