TYRONE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE ON BOW
SHREWSBURY Town will certainly be the happier to have picked up a point in the game between two of the best teams in the league.
The Shrimpers arrived at Greenhous Meadow on a good run following three successive victories, and – after a shaky first five minutes – they dictated most of the match.
Phil Brown’s side deservedly went in front when Jack Payne brilliantly fired home towards the start of the second half.
But it was the introduction of Tyrone Barnett that eventually brought the Shrews back in to the contest.
The striker was making his debut after signing from Peterborough United and impressively fired home from an incredibly acute angle following a rare mistake from Southend goalkeeper Daniel Bentley.
That ensured the game ended level but both sides certainly showed enough to suggest they will sustain their push for promotion during the remainder of the season.
