LEYTON ORIENT owner Francesco Becchetti is convinced he can bring success to the Matchroom Stadium despite a difficult start to his tenure.

The Italian bought Orient from Barry Hearn last summer, just months after they reached the play-off final, but they currently lie in the League One relegation zone.

The club have already had four different managers this term but Becchetti, who previously owned a national titlewinning Italian volleyball team, insists Orient are on the verge of a change of fortunes.

“In my past sport history I had great successes because I never give up,” said Becchetti.“The reason why Orient are not going so well is because we are starting a new era.

“With all investment, when you start something new you have to wait a little bit of time. Since I feel really well here in London, I will never give up.”

Becchetti has backed current manager Fabio Liverani to turn it around.

“We have to give him time,” he added.
