BARKER’S EMOTIONAL RETURN

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE ONE -

DERBY club captain Shaun Barker couldn’t hide his delight after playing his first game in almost three years.

It may have only been 45 minutes for the club’s under21s against Doncaster Rovers, but it felt like lining up against Barcelona or Real Madrid for Barker, who suffered an horrific knee injury against Nottingham Forest in March 2012.

“To play 45 minutes after so long out is probably the highlight of my career even though it wasn’t a first-team game,” said the 32-year-old ex-Rotherham and Blackpool man.“It has been an incredible journey.”

He was inundated with messages of congratulations after his return.
