ROBINS REMAIN PROMOTION FAVOURITES
SHEFFIELD United’s win was based on countering City’s strengths and hitting them hard and fast on the counter attack.
Centre-backs Terry Kennedy and Jay McEveley dealt effectively with the considerable aerial threat of home striker Matt Smith.
And the visitors were quick to close down Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, whose silky running skills have undone many opponents at Ashton Gate in recent weeks.
Nigel Clough’s men worked hard all over the pitch, but were unable to make much impact as an attacking force in the opening 45 minutes. That changed after the break, with the service improving to forwards Matt Done and Jamie Murphy, who both capitalised with goals.
In the end the Blades were worthy winners, but City had chances to take something and are unlikely to be seriously hit by this setback.
Steve Cotterill’s men benefitted from other results at the top of the table and remain the promotion favourites.
