WESTLEY: PITCH IS CAUSING INJURIES

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE TWO RESULTS - By Jamie Holt

GRAHAM Westley has called on those responsible for the Stevenage pitch to take action before he loses any more players to injury.

Westley insists that Darius Charles’ leg fracture, Dean Parrett’s groin injury and the recurrence of Jon Ashton’s ankle problem in his first match back after surgery could all have been prevented if the Lamex Stadium had a better playing surface.

“It really is very soft, it’s really difficult to get any footing and we’re suffering with the same types of injuries on a consistent basis,” he explained. “The pitch isn’t helping the game either, because it’s very much a question of trying to play in areas rather than being able to play the type of game we all like to see.

“Everybody at the club will be concerned by the fact that we are taking the knocks and by the fact that the pitch is doing what it’s doing.”
