February 14, 1972: An Australian millionaire wanted to buy Hereford United and move it lock, stock and barrel to Australia. February 15, 1992: Arsenal and Sheffield Wednesday were drawing 1-1 with 20 minutes to go but the score ended 71 to the Gunners, who scored six times in 18 minutes. February 16, 1982: Exeter City’s first team were sent en bloc to play Millwall’s reserves after losing 5-1 to the London side’s first team. They returned smarting from a 1-0 defeat by the Lions’ second eleven. February 17, 1940: Arsenal hit the silver screen with the first airing of ‘The Arsenal Stadium Mystery’. Manager George Allison and several of the players appeared in the film. February 18, 1987: Tony Adams becomes the first player to be capped by England (v Spain) to be born since England won the world cup. February 19, 1880: Sheffield FC are eliminated from the FA Cup after refusing to play extra-time after drawing 2-2 with Nottingham Forest. February 20, 1922: Billy Poyntz scores a hattrick for Leeds v Leicester in the afternoon. In the morning he got married!
