WOLVES HUNTING DOWN PLAY-OFFS
KENNY Jackett admits his Wolves side will be relying on a dash to the line if they are to force themselves into play-off contention during the final weeks of the season.
Yesterday’s 5-0 thrashing of Rotherham gave Wolves renewed heart, but they still lie eighth, a handful of points off the play-off spots.
Jackett insists only titlewinning form will do and has set his side a target of two points a game from here on in.
“Wherever you are and whatever you do, if you’ve got a sprint finish you’ve got a chance,” he said. “We need a sprint finish now.
“Luckily we are in position. We’re within touching distance of the promotion places and there is still a third of the season to go.
“So a good points total from now on will put us in a position to attack the top, and hopefully momentum can build up.
“But it’s okay saying that, we need to put up the performances that warrant that and can earn them, because the sides at the top of the division look very good and quite incisive in terms of goal-scoring.
“We’re looking to go through the gears a little bit as the games go on and step our game up a little bit.”
There was further good news for the Midlands club this weekend as Dominic Iorfa was named the Football League’s Young Player of the Month.
The 19-year-old has made himself a vital part of the defence in recent weeks.
Jackett added: “Dominic has done really well and taken his opportunity since coming into the first team. He has shown good consistency, ability on the ball and a turn of pace.”
