JASON CAN BE BLADES’ LAMPS
NIGEL Clough believes onloan midfielder Jason Holt can be Sheffield United’s very own Frank Lampard even if his future at Bramall Lane remains in the balance.
The 22-year-old will have his short-term switch from Scottish Championship side Hearts made permanent at the end of season if he impresses the Sheffield United hierarchy.
Holt has made an impact this season north of the border, scoring in a 2-0 win over Rangers, though ahead of yesterday’s trip to Crawley had failed to open his account for the Blades.
Clough admits the jury is still out on the former Scotland U21 international, but that certain similarities Holt possesses to Manchester City midfielder Lampard are working firmly in his favour.
“There aren’t many players in his position who do what Jason does any more,” said Clough.
“He runs beyond the midfield, he breaks the lines and does it naturally which has become a bit of a dying art.
“The best in the business at it is Frank Lampard. You can tell when it’s forced because people pass, think, then go. Jason doesn’t, it just comes naturally to him.
“What we have seen, we’re very impressed with.”
