The Football League Paper - - NEIL MELLOR - By David John

FORMER Fleetwood Town official David Mitchell has published a book charting the remarkable rise of the Cod Army from the North West Counties to League One inside a decade.

Author Mitchell is a former member of the club’s media team and has had full access to club archives as well as its key personnel past and present.

At the heart of Living the Dream: Fleetwood Town’s Six Promotions in Ten Years is a legendary player and an ambitious chairman.

Nathan Pond joined squad as a raw teenager back in 2003 and now closes in on the all-time club appearance record after successfully climbing every step along the way, a feat which resulted in an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records for the popular defender.

Football-loving Andy Pilley took over the reins early in 2004 and singled his intentions from the outset. His money, business acumen and boundless enthusiasm have inspired many others to devote time and energy to making Fleetwood the successful club it is today.

Around the central characters – current Premier League striker Jamie Vardy among them – are woven stories of key matches, genuine footballing folk and amusing incidents.
