The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE TWO - By Joshua Richards

WYCOMBE striker Matt McClure had everyone dusting off the record books this week following his sending off just 70 seconds after coming on as a second-half sub in Tuesday’s win over Tranmere.

The 23-year-old replaced midfielder Sam Saunders at Prenton Park, but after goalkeeper Matt Ingram had restarted by launching a lofted goal-kick, McClure had received his marching orders after just 3.7 seconds of actual game time.

Ref Mark Heywood judged McClure to have swung an elbow at Rovers’ Adam Dugdale and though the Chairboys launched an appeal against the dismissal this week, the FA upheld his three-match ban.

Boss Gareth Ainsworth said:“I think he’s led with his arm, but he hasn’t meant to elbow the guy in any way.

“I know Matty McClure well and he would never try and hurt anyone, but I think he’s jumped up and if he has caught him in the mouth with his arm, then it’s a red card.

“It’s unfortunate. There’s no way Matty would mean to do that so he’s got my backing.”

As well as missing yesterday’s trip to Southend, McClure will sit out home matches against Shrewsbury and Accrington Stanley.
