Jake’s big goal bonus is: a fiver!
JAKE Hessenthaler’s second-half header against Swindon helped Gillingham earn three vital points on Tuesday night – and the midfielder £5!
The 20-year-old had yet to open his account for the season before the trip to the County Ground, and teammate Josh Pritchard wagered the drought would continue.
But with the midtable Gills ahead as they trudged out for the second half, their advantage was quickly doubled when Hessenthaler rose to head in Bradley Dack’s cross. They went on to win 3-0.
“When I saw the play building up down the left I thought why not? I ran in and luckily got a flick, and it went in,” said Hessenthaler.
“I did fancy my chances on Tuesday and had a bit of banter with Josh Pritchard about it. He bet me a fiver I wouldn’t score so I’m going to make sure I get that off him next time I see him.”
