RUDDY GAFFE HAS HANSON CELEBRATING DEBUT ‘GOAL’
Teenager earns Derby a point
ADEBUT ‘goal’ for teenager Jamie Hanson saw Derby rescue a point at Carrow Road, thanks to a shocker from England goalkeeper John Ruddy.
It was an equaliser that looked a mile off at half-time, with the in-form Canaries dominating possession and deservedly ahead through a beautifully worked opener from Cameron Jerome.
Hanson, though, had other ideas. The 19-year-old defender learned he was playing only yesterday lunchtime following an injury to Omar Mascarell.
And the academy graduate seized his opportunity midway through the second half, whipping a peach of a corner under the crossbar that Ruddy juggled haplessly into his own net.
Officially it was an own goal, but Rams boss Steve McClaren said it would be ‘criminal’ to deny Hanson his moment of glory.
“It’s definitely his goal,” said McClaren. “Yes it was a fumble but the corner was on target. It would be terrible to take it away from him.
“We lost Omar to a foot injury on Friday, which meant we had three controlling midfielders out. That meant a debut for the 19-year-old lad – and what a game to come into.
“I didn’t tell him until about 12 o’clock on matchday. He didn’t say much – he’s such a quiet, unassuming lad.
