BAMFORD READY TO TAKE CENTRE STAGE

The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP -

THIS was just what Boro needed at the start of a huge week, but the same cannot be said for Ipswich.

While Ipswich’s chances of finishing in a play-off spot took a real hit at the Riverside, Boro finally rediscovered some of their early season form to give their title hopes a boost at just the right time.

Middlesbrough are at Derby County on Tuesday and then Bournemouth on Saturday, so heading to those places with a comfortable home win in the bag was exactly what the doctor ordered.

Aitor Karanka’s team had been criticised by fans for a lack of goals, but his decision to play Patrick Bamford up front against Ipswich was vindicated.

If Bamford can now go on a goalscoring run in the final nine matches, he could be exactly what Boro need to get in the top two and stay there.

Boro might have tried to sign Jordan Rhodes from Blackburn, but Bamford has 15 goals to his name and most have arrived from playing out wide. If he can build on that tally playing through the middle, they may just go up.
