JUVE POWER TOO MUCH FOR YORK

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE TWO RESULTS - By Ben Baker

YORK City boss Russ Wilcox concedes the Minstermen have no chance of competing with Italian giants Juventus for the permanent signing of Diego De Girolamo.

The 19-year-old is on loan at Bootham Crescent until the end of the season but has caught the eye of some of Europe’s top sides after rejecting a new deal with parent club Sheffield United.

And with Sunderland also interested in signing the Italy Under-20 international striker, Wilcox accepts York are out of the running.

“He’s a very levelheaded lad for 19 who knows what he wants,” the City boss said.

“He will be open to offers in the summer, but I don’t think York City will be able to compete with Juventus for him, and it does not surprise me that they are interested because he’s a quality player.

“My only surprise is that other bigger clubs haven’t come in for him as well.”
