Kermorgant helps put Bournemouth back on top
MIDDLESBROUGH manager Aitor Karanka tore into the officials after his side’s Premier League dream was blown apart by promotion rivals Bournemouth.
Boro paid the penalty for conceding two spot-kicks and having a goal chalked off for offside as the rampant Cherries leapfrogged Karanka’s side in the table.
Yann Kermorgant and substituted Brett Pitman both converted from 12 yards, while Republic of Ireland new-boy Harry Arter bagged a 20yard screamer.
Spaniard Karanka said: “We had all the things against us. The penalties for me are unbelievable.
“I can understand mistakes because everyone makes mistakes, but I can’t understand behaviours. For example, when we had a disallowed goal the linesman was laughing.
“I knew it was going to be a very difficult game, because we played against one of the best teams in the league.
“It was going to be difficult and then I started to see the mistakes we made, especially in the first half. Then I started to feel the referee’s decisions. It was a bad day.”
Callum Wilson was a constant menace to the Boro defence and the Cherries’ top-scorer was bundled over by Tomas Kalas in the 12th minute.
Kermorgant, who famously missed a penalty for Leicester in a play-off semi-final, stepped up and coolly drove his kick past Boro goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos.
The first half was played at a frenetic pace and Bournemouth could have been out of sight before the interval.
Kermorgant had a volley saved by Konstantopoulos, before Matt Ritchie’s 31st-minute volley was kept out by the busy Boro number one.
Middlesbrough were unable to truly test Artur Boruc in the first 45 minutes.Their best chance came on the half-hour mark when Adam Reach flicked Patrick Bamford’s cross into the hands of the Poland international.
Arter doubled the Cherries’ lead only two minutes into the second half with his curling left-foot effort cannoning in off the inside of the left post.
Boro thought they were back in the game in the 68th minute but
