LEAGUE LOOKS AT 2022 IMPACT
THE Football League have expressed their ‘disappointment’ at the fact the 2022 Qatar World Cup will disrupt the season – but are now keen to find out exactly what the implications are.
World governing body FIFA confirmed last week that the final will take place on December 18, with the tournament possibly lasting 28 days.
Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey said: “While we remain disappointed that the 2022 World Cup will be staged during the season, having certainty over the dates will at least now give us the opportunity to consider the implications for the domestic league and cup fixture calendar.
“We will now seek prompt clarification as to whether domestic competitions will be permitted to continue during the period of the tournament, if that ultimately proves to be the choice of our clubs, and whether any such matches could be broadcast on television.”
Meanwhile, FIFA has allowed the emergency loan system to continue in England next season after fears it would be abolished.
