ADAM McGURK – The Burton Albion striker chooses his favourite XI, made up from players he has played with in his football career.
Stephen Henderson – Charlton I played with him as a youngster at Aston Villa. He had good handling skills, great shot-stopping and he could ping it about 80 yards to someone’s feet. Even back then you could tell he would go on to big things.
Eric Lichaj – Nottingham Forest He doesn’t get caught out, he’s hard to get past and he makes great attacking runs as well. I never really got the better of him in training – but I don’t think many did!
Ian Goodison – Retired Goody captained Jamaica at the 1998 World Cup and played until he was 41. He was getting on a bit when I played with him at Tranmere but you could tell he would have been a very good centre-back in his prime.
Ciaran Clark – Aston Villa He was our captain coming through the youth teams at Villa and he’s gone on to be a regular in the Premier League. You could see he had the ability to reach that level – he was always good when he was younger and can put in a crunching tackle!
Aaron Cresswell – West Ham We were at Tranmere together and he had a wand of a left foot, probably the best I’ve seen around. He scored some unbelievable goals from set-pieces. There was one away at Dagenham from the right-hand edge of the area that he curled into the far stanchion – it was ridiculous.
Zeli Ismail – Wolves He came on loan last season and was very good right away. He was tricky with a good turn of pace and set up quite a few goals. He really is the full package – I think he’s been injured recently but I’d be surprised if he doesn’t get a run for Wolves.
James Wallace – Sheffield United He suffered a bad injury in the second year he was at Tranmere which was devastating because he’d been our best player to that point. When he’s injury-free, he’s a top player – hopefully he can get back to his best.
Barry Bannan – Bolton (on loan from Crystal Palace) He’s one of my best mates, so he wouldn’t be happy if I left him out! Barry was unbelievable and it’s not surprising he has played close to 100 Premier League games. We both moved down to Villa when we were about 14 and we came from similar backgrounds, so we just got on right away.
Chris Hussey – Bury When Chris first came to Burton he was on fire – he’s a big reason we got to the play-off final last year and he’s a good laugh off the field as well. He’s a character, he’s not the brightest spark, but very funny!
James Collins – Shrewsbury I played with him at Villa before he went to Shrewsbury and he’s still one of my best mates in the game – I speak to him nearly every day. He works really hard but he knows where the net is. He’s more of a target man, not afraid to get amongst it and I enjoyed playing off him.
Billy Kee – Mansfield (on loan from Scunthorpe) He’s got a good track record of scoring wherever he has gone. When you get the ball to his feet in and around the box, he’s one of the best I’ve seen. He gets a half-yard and gets a shot off – he’s deadly.
