PALTRY POMPEY PAY THE ULTIMATE PRICE

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE TWO -

SHREWSBURY did not have to get out of first gear to cruise past a poor Portsmouth side.

Pompey have one of the biggest wage bills in the division but were outclassed by their second placed opponents.

It has been another wasted season for the hosts who must now decide whether to keep faith with manager Andy Awford or seek a more experienced replacement for next term.

There are no such concerns for the Shrewsbury board, who have seen Micky Mellon put together a slick promotionchasing side.

Their three central defenders formed a rocklike back-line with Mickey Demetriou and Cameron Gayle providing plenty of energy in the wing-back positions.

Liam Lawrence is a Rolls Royce in midfield, making them tick and their front pair of James Collins and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro are a real handful up front.

Pompey broke the bank for Matt Tubbs but chances are hard to come by just now.
