MIDDLESBROUGH boss Aitor Karanka has risked incurring the wrath of his own fans by telling them to leave their negativity behind at the Riverside turnstiles.

Boro are locked in a fourway battle for automatic promotion to the Premier League and Karanka believes the team have become victims of their own succession, with fans now expecting too much.

He said: “Always the atmosphere is negative and I think they have to be proud of the players because they are being perfect.

“I would like to have the same passionate people who come when we play away, at home.

“The players need the support and if they want to be in the Premier League like us, we have to go together.”
