WE NEED FANS TO RETURN – MATT
AFTER leading Blackburn out in front of a scarcely seen capacity crowd at Ewood Park, captain Matt Kilgallon is determined to bring the good times back to the Lancashire club.
Rovers suffered a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in their FA Cup quarter-final replay this week, a televised tie which attracted a crowd of 28,415.
That number is eyewatering when you consider Blackburn’s average gate for a Championship fixture is just shy of 15,000.
But Kilgallon hopes the numbers that turned out to cheer on the 1995 Premier League champions on Wednesday can soon return with regularity.
“We’ve put Blackburn back on the football map,” said the 31-year-old defender.
“We’re very proud of the cup run and it was brilliant to play in front of a full house.
“Hopefully we can get that all the time now and start getting better and better.
“Next season is going to be massive for us.We want to go up next season and this gives us confidence.
“The fans gave us that extra boost, I didn’t hear the Liverpool fans all night. It makes a massive difference.”
