TREVOR CARSON – The Cheltenham Town goalkeeper chooses his favourite XI, made up from players he has played with in his football career.

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE ONE RESULTS -

Craig Gordon – Celtic There’s one particular training session I remember with Craig at Sunderland. It was on a Friday before a game and he made me feel really rubbish. Darren Bent and a few others were firing them past me and I couldn’t get near anything and Craig comes along and saves everything!

Matt Doherty – Wolves Matt’s doing great at Wolves, but when he was on loan at Bury he was still cutting his teeth a little – but you never knew it on match days. He was a great addition and he took to it brilliantly.

Jonny Evans – Manchester United We used to go to Man United’s centre of excellence together when we were nine or ten. You could tell, even then, he was a bit special. He then came to Sunderland on loan when I was there and Roy Keane tried to sign him for £12m but United weren’t having any of it. Top defender.

Steve Elliott – Retired He played in the Premier League and had a great career before his knee went earlier this season. The ball would come into the box and you’d think ‘we’re in trouble here’ and then all of a sudden you’d hear this thud from Steve’s head and the ball would be on the halfway line!

George McCartney – Retired George retired last summer after his contract at West Ham ended, and I’ve tried to get him to come down and help us out but he’s having none of it. He’s not up to much, he loves his horses like me, so he’ll probably be spending most of his time in the bookies!

Jordan Henderson – Liverpool Sunderland tried to get rid of him when he was 15 because they didn’t think he was good enough – and look what has happened since. Worked really hard on his game. He’ll be on about £80,000-a-week now and he deserves every penny.

Jack Colback – Newcastle United We used to share lifts into training at Sunderland and he used to always say how much he wanted to play for Newcastle. I was at his wedding last year and he had offers from Newcastle and West Ham – and I was pleading for him not to sign for Newcastle! West Ham even offered him more money, but Newcastle are his boyhood club.

Steed Malbranque – Lyon He was the type of lad who wouldn’t speak for about six weeks, but there was one time at the Christmas party when he had a few drinks and you couldn’t shut him up! A quality player.

Ashley Grimes – Walsall His career stuttered a bit having started off at Manchester City, but I remember him when I was on loan at Lincoln. He scored virtually every goal while I was there. A great talent.

Jamie Ward – Derby I was at Chesterfield with Jamie. He scored 20-odd goals in a season and earned his big move to Sheffield United. He’s since gone to Derby and done brilliantly. He’ll be in the Premier soon.

David Healy – Retired It was always my dream to play with David, he’s such an icon in Northern Ireland and I managed to convince him to join Bury a couple of seasons ago. The boss, Richie Barker, wasn’t sure about him and thought he would be on loads of money, but he wasn’t. He scored on his debut against Coventry and I was lauded for being a genius... but he didn’t score again and the fans hated him.
