Steve’s back in the running

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE TWO -

STEVE GUINAN experienced his fair share of gruelling pre-season runs in a 20-year career that took in places like Nottingham Forest, Plymouth, Hereford and Cheltenham – but nothing has prepared him for the marathon.

The 39-year-old striker, who twice won promotion from League Two, is taking on the Virgin Money London Marathon in a fortnight’s time.

And he’ll be drawing on the will to win that shaped his football career as he attempts to complete the famous 26.2 mile course in around four hours. “Although playing football for years gives you a decent level of fitness, I can’t remember the last time I ever ran,” said Guinan, now a PFA regional coach educator and pictured left in his running kit.

“Sometimes the training has been a grind but I just want it to be here now and complete the race – well, race is the wrong word!”
